Hmm, haven't done much Baldur's Gate stuff... but I just finsihed the game for like the millioneth time... and I wanted to remember it this time.
I've played with my fave character, Edgar like six or seven times... always romancing Viconia... cos, well, personally, I think all the other romances are a little bit... bleh...

I think Viconia was definately the best romance option in Baldur's Gate 2. Mainly due to the fact that you tend to be in the position of being an equal. While you did have to rescue her from being killed in both games, I don't think that was due to her being weak but more due to her situation.
With Jaheira, she seemed more your mentor/older sister before the romance in my opinion. That always made things feel more awkward to me.
With Aerie, she was more of a child in temperment and thus whined alot. Plus, the whole getting pregnant and giving birth really fast thing that also took up an inventory slot was annoying as hell.
